Internal medicine is considered as the cornerstone of society-oriented medicine. Due to the gradual concentration of the applied clinical research on particular and precise issues, the centrality of internal medicine has been highlighted. Every subcategory of internal medicine comprises a comprehensive curriculum of a specialty. Moreover, the treatment of patients and conducting researches on relevant issues require scientific scrutiny. However, the interrelatedness of the components of internal medicine as a significant specialty calls for its rigorous instruction to students. The specialty of internal medicine is a clinical specialty whose alumni have acquired the knowledge, attitude, and skill required for prevention, diagnostic evaluation, and healthcare associated with internal medicine diseases. Moreover, they have a pivotal role in the system of healthcare distribution. That is, they contribute to the education of medical students, treatment of patients, accomplishment of medical studies, and providing administrative services in the referral system. Internal medicine has been taught worldwide in universities as one of the oldest medical specialties for more than a century. Lorestan University of Medical Sciences began to recruit internal medicine residents in 2011.
