Lorestan University of Medical Sciences

As one of the oldest departments established at LUMS, Department of Surgery initiated its work in 1991, roughly simultaneously with the establishment of the School of Medicine. This department has been training interns for twenty-seven years. The Department is located in the building of clinical education in Shohadaye Ashayer Hospital. We cover nine specialties, i.e. general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, coronary artery disease, and cardiology. Twelve faculty members teach students in the various branches of this Department. There is at least one faculty member for every specialty. The entire courses annually offered to students in the stagership and internship periods comprise twenty-two and twenty-four credits respectively.  We began to recruit surgery residents in 2015 (two residents a year). Our faculty members have published several articles in scholarly ISI and PubMed journals, and international congresses. At least ten research projects are carried out by our competent researchers annually. Moreover, our faculty members have contributed to the accomplishment of at least thirty medical theses as supervisors and advisors to date.
