Department of Public Health initiated its operation in 1992 simultaneously with the establishment of the School of Health and Nutrition. Initially, the courses of family health and disease control were offered to applicants, and then the Department extended the realm of its activity in line with the development of the School. The mission of the Department includes the theoretical and applied education of students in the continued and discontinued B.S. programs of public health based on the guidelines and curricula issued by the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education. Moreover, we carry out practical research concerning public health and its efficient determinants for the purpose of promoting the health status of the society. Public health is the principal field in health sciences. Students and researchers of public health endeavor to reconstruct and promote the health status of the society. We are committed to training knowledgeable, competent and responsible students. Students of this field should be knowledgeable and skilled in the sciences, beliefs, and skills that help them contribute to the maintenance and promotion of the health of the society. These students will have the opportunity of employment in the health-care system. They have the chance to participate in the following activities:

Educational function: training the population covered by LUMS

Research function: contribute to the accomplishment of practical research on health issues affecting Iran

Healthcare function: participation in the projects ratified by the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education within the society such as providing children and pregnant women with healthcare services
