About the Department

Laboratory Sciences is a sub-branch of the medical field through which students are acquainted with scientific and theoretical issues in basic sciences and laboratory sciences. Of significance in this field is its role in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and follow-up of different diseases. Thus, it is one of the most important majors at Medical Schools. Various minor courses in this field have played significant roles in the remarkable developments in biotechnological techniques, hematology, biochemistry, parasitology, bacteriology, virology, and new diagnostic tests. Specialists in this field have done much to reduce costs and time and have also been able to come up with the best options for treatment or prevention which are all activities worthy of note.

Due to the particularity and decisiveness of this field in the general health of the society and its key role in assisting medical diagnosis, students in the field are well aware that accuracy and precision in this area is of utmost significance and they must update themselves continually so as to become a scientific pole. Alumni in this field provide biological samples from blood, urine, and stool, and after careful preparation, conduct different tests. Further tests in hormonal and immunological diagnoses can also be conducted. Alumni are also authorized to cooperate in various parts of a medical laboratory. Employment in non-medical sectors such as laboratories for food industry, pharmaceutical plants and factories are among their other alternatives.
