      Department of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Administration 

      As one of the branches of pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical administration uses the principles and tenets of the sciences of economics and management for the purpose of policy making and planning for the utilization of limited resources of various aspects of pharmaceutical system, namely the pharmaceutical industry, preparation and distribution of drugs, and finally the economic assessment of pharmaceutical interventions. This field of study was initially established at the School of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, in 2008. Students of pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical administration acquire a vast body of knowledge concerning economics, accounting, financial management, and policy making in health and medication system. Hence, alumni of this field could become competent managers capable of solving pharmaceutical problems and promoting the services of healthcare system. Likewise, using various approaches of economic assessment, the best choice that might be cost-effective and efficient is selected. Accordingly, scientific and academic procedures are undertaken to produce or export medications. The Department of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Administration at the School of Pharmacy has set several goals for itself as follows:

      ·         Developing the skills of students of pharmacy concerning pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical administration in order to contribute to the improvement of their capabilities with regard to the optimum and scientific management of pharmaceutical organizations and issues relevant to medications

      ·         Motivating the students to conduct researches on pharmaceutical issues

      ·         Conducting practical research projects to solve the problems of the pharmaceutical system and pharmacies

      ·         Cooperating with manufacturers and organizations associated with pharmacy in scientific and administrative issues

      The courses offered by the Department of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Administration in the PharmD program:

      ·         Principles and tenets of economics, management and health economics

      ·         Insurances and pharmacy management

      ·         International pharmaceutical policies

      ·         Econometric methods in health system

      ·         Pharmaceutical law, rules and ethics

      ·         Management of pharmaceutical research, development and marketing

      ·         Management of the network of preparing pharmaceutical products

      ·         Pricing, and analyzing the costs

      Research Priorities:

      ·         Investigating the management and economics of pharmacies

      ·         Conducting comparative studies on the policy making of drug and health system

      ·         Improving the delivery of pharmaceutical services

      ·         Economic evaluation of medications (efficiency cost, optimity cost, analysis cost)

      ·         Pharmaceutical supply chain
